Couples Therapy in Walnut Creek, CA and Online Across California
Winning arguments doesn’t win relationships. Strong relationships are built by learning how to understand each other.
The truth is that even the most seemingly “perfect” couple has conflict.
And you know that relationships aren’t perfect. But now, maybe you feel that you’re arguing more than you'd like. You’re more disconnected. Maybe you're stuck having the same fight over and over, even though you both want things to be different.
Many couples come to therapy saying they want to work on “communication.” And I agree that communication matters. But it's usually only part of the story.
Often, underneath the conflict are fears, old wounds, unmet needs that need to be addressed, and the hope that your partner will truly understand what you're trying to say
Therapy gives you a place to slow down, step out of the cycle, and start seeing each other differently.
The goal of couples therapy isn't to decide who's right.
When emotions run high, it can be hard to make room for someone else's experience while you're carrying your own hurt.
You may worry that if you listen to your partner, your own feelings won't matter. And in the context of your history and life experiences, that fear makes sense.
In therapy, we'll work toward creating space for both experiences to exist at the same time.
You can feel hurt without dismissing your partner's pain. You can disagree without becoming enemies.
That's where meaningful change begins.

Let’s look beyond the argument.
The dishes, money, parenting, schedules…. These are the things that arguments are about on the surface.
But the conflict is usually really about what those moments represent.
Feeling alone.
Feeling dismissed.
Feeling unsupported.
Feeling unseen.
Together, we'll slow the conversation down and look beneath the surface. Instead of staying focused on what happened, we'll explore why it mattered so much.
Understanding those deeper patterns often creates more change than solving the argument itself.
How I approach couples therapy
I pay attention to more than the words being said. I notice the patterns between you. The moments where conversations get stuck. The ways each of you reaches for connection, even when it doesn't come across that way.
My role is to help both of you understand yourselves, understand each other, and create new ways of responding when old patterns show up.
I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Gottman Method Couples Therapy, while tailoring our work to your unique relationship.
Every couple is welcome here.
There is no single definition of what a relationship should look like.
I welcome couples of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, relationship structures and spiritual and religious beliefs.
I provide an affirming space where your relationship is respected, your experiences are valued, and all partners feel heard.

You don't have to keep having the same fight.
Healthy relationships aren't conflict-free. Rather, they're built by learning how to repair, reconnect, and move through challenges together.
If you're ready to strengthen your relationship, I'd be honored to help.
